DOT physicals in Las Vegas
A DOT physical is a federal requirement, and a failed one costs you working days. We do them properly, quickly, and we tell you exactly what to bring so you do not have to come back twice.
Every commercial driver operating a vehicle that requires a CDL must hold a valid medical certificate, and only an examiner listed on the FMCSA National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners can issue one. Not every clinic advertising DOT physicals has one on staff. Ask before you book — anywhere.
What the exam covers
- Health history review, including medications and conditions under treatment
- Vision — 20/40 or better in each eye with correction if you use it, plus peripheral vision
- Hearing
- Blood pressure and pulse
- Urinalysis — this screens for medical conditions and is not a drug test
- Physical examination — heart, lungs, abdomen, spine, neurological and extremities
Certification periods
Most drivers who pass are certified for 24 months. Shorter certificates — 3, 6 or 12 months — are issued when a condition needs monitoring, most often blood pressure, diabetes or sleep apnoea. A shorter card is not a failure; it means we will check on you sooner.
If your card keeps getting shortened
That is usually a treatable condition going unmanaged. We are a primary care clinic as well as a DOT examiner, so we can address the underlying problem instead of just re-testing you every six months. See chronic disease care.
Common questions
How long is a DOT physical good for?
Up to 24 months. If you have a condition that needs monitoring — most often high blood pressure, diabetes or sleep apnoea — the examiner may issue a 3, 6 or 12 month certificate instead. That is normal and it is not a disqualification.
Can I fail a DOT physical for high blood pressure?
Under 140/90 certifies for the full two years. Between 140/90 and 179/109 you can generally still be certified, but for a shorter period while it is brought under control. At 180/110 or above you cannot be certified until it is lowered. If your pressure runs high, take your medication as prescribed and avoid caffeine before your appointment.
Is the urine test a drug test?
No. The urinalysis screens for protein, blood and sugar, which point to kidney or metabolic problems. DOT drug testing is a separate process run through your employer's programme.
How much is a DOT physical?
Our DOT physical is $120, paid at the time of the exam. That covers the full examination and your certificate if you pass.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome during office hours and we will fit you in when we can. Calling ahead means less waiting — useful if you are between runs.
What if I do not pass?
You will leave knowing exactly why and what has to change. Most issues — blood pressure, an untreated condition, a missing specialist letter — are fixable. We will tell you what to do and when to come back.
This is not for emergencies
If you are having chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, severe bleeding, or any symptom that frightens you, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not use this website, and do not wait to see if it passes.
